Through the use of hyper-theatricality and puppetry, MASON WRIGHT IS NOT A MOTHER explores themes of consent, trauma and medical malpractice against women. In this courageous new play by Ashley Giaccio, a senior at SUNY Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance, we follow Mason, a young woman coming to grips with the realities of her past, finding peace with her identity, and searching for a new understanding of love, healing, and what it means to be a mother.
Following a workshop process on campus, this AlleyWorks reading will be presented for one night only on December 2 in the Alleyway Cabaret through a partnership with the Writers Group led by Daniel Lendzian at the SUNY Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance.

Ashley Giaccio [she/they] is currently a senior at SUNY Fredonia studying Musical Theater and Creative Writing. Mason Wright Is Not a Mother is a project they started after a personal experience with medical malpractice, specifically centered around women's health and fertility. She began writing about this experience in the Spring of 2022 and grew to tell a story about themes much larger, encompassing trauma, sexual assault, and what it means to be a parent. They completed a first draft of the play shortly thereafter in the Fall of 2022 in conjunction with a Writer's Group Headed by Daniel Lendzian. Ashley would like to thank everyone in this group, especially Daniel Lendzian, for being the first ones to welcome this story with grace and excitement, and to let them know that their passion for theater and art inspires her endlessly. They would also love to extend a tremendous thank you to Chris Handely and the Alleyway Theater for their belief and enthusiasm, as well as all the time and effort they have put into this new project for it to be actualized on their Cabaret stage! To Ashley's friends and family, thank you for all the love you have given her in their creative efforts and for supporting them no matter how strange or unusual those projects may be. Finally, to Mommom Pam, you are Ashley's best friend and inspiration, this project would not have been possible without you! Ashley hopes you enjoy the show!
