AUDITIONS & CASTING

Alleyway holds open auditions each summer for all artists, both Equity and nonunion alike, for paid positions. We also attend the January Theatre Alliance of Buffalo auditions each season. Individual shows are cast based off of these open calls, as well as submissions of headshots and résumés throughout the year.

At Alleyway, we celebrate stories of everyone. So, as we hire and cast, we're committed to creating an equitable and accessible, diverse and inclusive, joyful community of artists and staff. We seek artists and staff representing the breadth of humanity; people of all genders, races, abilities, and ages should apply.

NOW CASTING

As of October 14, 2024 we are casting roles in the following upcoming productions. Actors who are interested and available should submit their headshot and résumé immediately for consideration.

• A KIDMAN CAROL
  written and directed by Kevin Zak
  • Seeking actors of all genders, ages, and races to play multiple roles including Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Catherine Hepburn, and others. Must be adept at comedy and improvisation. Most actors will play multiple roles in this workshop production. All roles available. Invited callbacks will be held in late October/early November.
  • Two weeks of rehearsals will begin late November followed by a two week run in the Cabaret.
• BLACK BEAR ISLAND
  written by Karissa Murrell-Myers and directed by Daniel Lendzian
  • Seeking actors to play the following roles. Invited callbacks will be held in late October.
    • AMITRA - late 20’s to 30’s, she/her. Always on the run. Has a deep scar from temple to jaw.
    • WARREN - late 20’s to 30’s, he/him. Bearded, Charming, and Dead™.
    • RUBY - early teens, she/her. Woods-wise, operates on animal instinct. Deadpan. Mistrusts adults. Hates you.
    • MARJORIE - 40’s-60’s, she/her. The Friendliest Neighbor You Never Wanted. Texan accent. Talks fast, listens less.
    • GIRL - 14-16 years old, she/her. Free-spirited, sharp, reckless, and deeply angry.
    • BOY - 14-16 years old, he/him. Anxious, logical, very “in love” and not sure wha the fuck to do about it.
    • FINN - 12-13 years old, he/him. BOY’S little brother. Eager, desperate to fit in.
    • DENNIS THE UPS GUY - he/him. Not paid enough for the amount of shit he deals with.
    • THE MAN - 20’s-30’s, he/him. Clever, ruthless, horribly sane.
  • Rehearsals will begin mid January. Performances are on the main stage February 14 through March 8.
• AGATHA CHRISTIE'S THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD
  written by Heidi Armbruster and directed by Chris J Handley
  • Seeking actors to play the following roles. Invited callbacks will be held in November/December.
    • Doctor James Sheppard The Narrator, Male, nearing retirement
    • Miss Caroline Sheppard Dr. Sheppard’s Sister (also plays Mrs. Ackroyd, Mrs. Ferris, The Signalman) Female, 60’s
    • Roger Ackroyd The Patriarch (also plays Monsieur Le Détective) Male, 60’s
    • Mr. Ralph Paton Ackroyd’s Stepson (also plays Parker, The Watchman) Male, 30’s
    • Miss Flora Ackroyd Ackroyd’s Niece (also plays Miss Gannett) Female, 20’s
    • Miss Ursula Bourne Ackroyd’s Parlor Maid (also plays the Inspector, Mrs. Folliot, Agnes) Female, 30’s
    • Major Blunt Ackroyd’s Friend (also plays Mr. Hammond) Male, 40’s
  • Rehearsals will begin mid March. Performances are on the main stage April 11 through May 3.
